To be black

To be black is to be able to see the struggles that you will have simply because of your skin color and have the ability to overcome those struggles. It is to recognize the unrecognizable, to understand the misunderstood, and it is to expect the unexpected.

To be black is to be proud of you who are and where you come from. It is to be able to dodge the bullets that will be shot at you from all angles. It is to understand that you are a rock turned diamond from heat and stress. It is a beautiful curse that allows you to learn to love yourself regardless of how often you will be put down.

To be black is to be what "they" want to be. To the point where they mock, make fun of & felt the need to make society look at us in a negative light because of how mad "they" are at the fact that WE ARE GREAT, WE ARE THE ORIGINATORS, WE ARE IMMORTAL.

To be black? Is to be the best thing that can happen to anyone.

  1. This picture stands out too me because its basically saying that white people have it easy and African-Americans gotta go through some struggles just to get to the finish line. I feel as though no matter what skin color you are, you're going to struggle in life, period. All white people are not rich and all black people are not poor. We got goals just like they do.

  2. Janae, this would be a great intro to an essay. Answer this, if you think this is what it means to be black do you think that Black people in this country are acting according to the standard you spoke about here? Are we proud; are we preparing for the unexpected; are we seeing each other as diamonds; are we demanding to be treated like a precious stone?
