In the media, black people are often put on as bad people who kill one another, gangsters, plain out ignorant and dumb. In my opinion, the media is merely a reminder and a form of promotion of how black people are expected to act. I often ask "why is it that the only black history we learn about is when blacks were slaves and segregated against. We never learned about when black people were kings and queens. Never were we taught about our history that took place before African Americans were kid napped and became slaves. Therefore, this is all we know (well most of us). Because of the fact that the true history of African Americans is being swept under the rug and there is this constant negative image being promoted about blacks, leads me to believe that there is a great deal of African American history that if found out about, could lead blacks to our full and comets freedom. There is clearly something about blacks that is so great, we are feared due to our uniqueness that cannot be explained nor copied. I do not believe that blacks are fears because of how the media puts us out to be, we are feared because of how much power we hold. That melanin though ;)

Hi Janae!
ReplyDeleteI think the image that you chose and the connection you made with your feelings is very intense but the way you view our struggle and the beauty in our progress is very inspirational.

Loren, Say more. Why is it inspiration and what specifically do you agree with and why?
DeleteGreat title! Why do you think we choose to ignore our positive history? If Black people are so powerful then why don't we take the time to investigate the positive people we come from and change the dialogue about Black people from negative to positive? Or are some of us already doing that but our own people won't listen to those that are trying to give them an alternative history? If so then why? Hmmm...?
ReplyDeleteHello my love, i first want to say the first picture is soooo amazing because it really shows what african americans go through n life oppose to the other ethnicities it speaks volumes and the second picture makes me want to draw, i say that because its inspiring and beautiful. i love how u said that "In the media, black people are often put on as bad people who kill one another, gangsters, plain out ignorant and dumb." because its extremely untrue and stereotypical because in reality were all just going through life trying to find ourselves.
